Notredame

IVAN (18) and EZZE (16) are two brothers with intense thuggish looks, whose lives revolve around the streets of Milan. They want to run away to Barcelona, leaving behind the city where they were born. They’ve taken three kilos of hash to resell, to make the money they need to leave. Ezze, to prove his worth to his older brother, decides to go and sell the hash on his own, but it is stolen by a rival gang. Ivan then decides to ambush the rival gang together with Ezze, but the robbery ends in a brawl in which Ezze stabs Malon, the leader of the rival gang. Distraught over yet another failure, Ivan lashes out at his brother and decides to abandon him. Ezze is left alone, desperate and abandoned. Four days later Ezze writes to his brother telling him that he has recovered the hash and has made the money needed to leave: they must meet up again as soon as possible. But when Ivan arrives at the agreed place, Ezze is not there, his phone is switched off and he hasn’t answered in hours. So Ivan begins a night of searching for his missing brother, in the boisterous and partying Milan nightlife, with Malon's gang on his heels, who in the meantime has died from the stab wound inflicted by Ezze. Ivan will only find his brother again in the morning, discovering that the messages Ezze had sent him were lies, that he’d written them just to get him to come back, desperate in his loneliness after discovering he had killed someone. Ivan forgives his brother, and realizing they must stick together, they try a last desperate escape to Barcelona – but Ezze decides to turn back and turn himself in. And so Ivan continues his journey alone, arriving exhausted in Barcelona, hiding on trains and penniless. Like a sleepwalker, he wanders desperately through the crowds and falls asleep on a beach watching the seagulls.
